Audiology

Audiology is a specialty that focuses on hearing disorders through identification, evaluation and treatment of people with hearing loss. Audiologists are health care professionals who have earned a Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited university graduate program in audiology.

If you have a hearing loss you are not alone. It's estimated that one out of ten Americans have a hearing loss--that's more than 31,000,000 people. There are many reasons for hearing loss including disease or infection, medication, exposure to noise, tumors, trauma, and the aging process. If you or a family member thinks you might have a hearing loss or a balance problem, Pacific Medical Center's audiologists can help. Care begins with a complete history and then a variety of specialized auditory and balance assessments or tests are given. None of the hearing or balance tests given are painful.

Depending upon the diagnosis you may need to be fitted for a hearing aid or you may be a candidate for aural rehabilitation or balance therapy. The audiologist may also refer you to another physician if medical or surgical evaluation is needed.
