Gastroenterology
Building on a wealth of experience, we have designed a new kind of Gastroenterology Department offering a more comprehensive approach to liver disease and other GI disorders. Two of our offerings merit special mention: the Liver Clinic and Women's Health Services, particularly screening for colorectal cancer in women.
The Liver Clinic
Liver disease management needs a medical team with a unique set of skills. That's why we created the Pacific Medical Centers Liver Clinic, gathering the latest information and blending it with the best of evidence-based treatment methods. The result is a more effective way of managing liver disease.
We have the specialists in liver disease to provide optimal and comprehensive care for patients with regular or advanced liver problems. They work closely with endocrinologists, oncologists, rheumatologists, University of Washington liver transplant program, and other knowledgeable caregivers as needed. Our hepatologists are well-trained in caring for patients before and after liver transplantation.
Women’s Health Services
Colon cancer is increasingly recognized as a major problem in women. Yet the vast majority of cases in women are going undetected.
The need for more thorough screening has never been more urgent. It's an understandably sensitive issue for many women, who may be reluctant to undergo sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy screenings for gastric and colorectal cancer when these are performed by male gastroenterologists.
We understand and respect our patients' sensibilities and feel that they should have the option of consulting with a female specialist. Two of the doctors in our GI department are women, and are dedicated to the health needs of women. These specialists see patients at our Madison, Northgate and Renton locations.
Colorectal cancer screening with colonoscopy is considered the gold standard for detecting pre-cancerous polyps. In recent studies they're shown to be especially more effective than sigmoidoscopy in women. Early detection of colon cancer, which is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the U.S., behind lung cancer, can prevent up to 90% of colorectal cancer deaths.
