Interventional Pain Management
In the U.S., it’s estimated that the total direct and indirect cost of chronic pain is $294 billion every year. And that’s just the economics. There is no way to calculate the cost in suffering that pain causes. Pain makes it hard for someone to concentrate, to work or to continue normal activities. In fact, pain can overwhelm a person’s life.
Our focus is on your quality of life.
Our Pain Specialists Combine Alternative and Conventional Treatments
At Pacific Medical Centers, our pain specialists understand pain. They combine conventional and alternative treatments to provide pain relief and to improve quality of life. When possible, the goal is to manage pain without the use of narcotics through techniques such as nonsurgical ligament reconstruction (prolotherapy) and hands-on care (osteopathic manipulation) for painful conditions.
Fluoroscopy Keeps Treatment on Target
Treatment strategies may rely on advanced, fluoroscopically guided, interventional pain-management techniques such as spinal cord stimulation and intradiscal therapies. Fluoroscopy involves using a special technique to obtain real-time, moving images of bones, joints and nerves. It helps the pain specialist correctly target treatment to a problem area.
Spinal Stimulation: You Control This Effective Treatment
Spinal cord stimulation is done with a small device like a pacemaker called a spinal cord stimulator that is implanted under the skin. Spinal cord stimulators send low-intensity electrical impulses to trigger certain nerve fibers along the spinal cord. This can block or diminish the intensity of the pain message that’s transmitted to the brain.
One of the biggest benefits of spinal cord stimulation is that the patient is in control of deciding when pain relief is needed. Most people experience a 50 to 75 percent improvement, enough to resume daily activities at home and at work, as well as recreational activities such as swimming or traveling.
